New Life

On a gorgeous day, with the sky clear, the sun shining and the weather cool – I was in a funk. Couldn’t explain it – just felt over anxious. Maybe it was the coffee on an empty stomach, maybe it was the too many colas over the weekend, or just a low bio rythm. Anyway – during a photo session of a gorgeous home (326 W Alkire Lake – see gallery – HERE)as melancholy was taking hold, I came across a mother mallard duck – quietly warming her eggs – in the flower pot under the porch! I didn’t want to disturb her, but she took off before I could set my camera straight. Looking at these eggs, and the determination of the mother to occupy them in the presence of humans, made me realize that there is so much beauty in this world, you only have to look around you to find it – and by allowing myself to see the beauty……..Everything felt better.

Birds!

The Birds (1963) is a suspense film directed by Alfred Hitchcock, based on the short story of the same name by Daphne du Maurier. These birds fortunately did not attack me – but if they decided to, it would have made one heck of an interesting news story! Thousands of them kept congregating at this one tree, I have never seen so many in one place. One hand clap made the sky turn black.

Lake Somerville Trailway: Part II

After 2 information gathering excursions, I got my equipment together and completed the 13.5 mile trail – alone. Backpacking through nature alone is not as scary as it used to be my first few times. Now I can actually enjoy the silence and sleep through the noises nature makes. This was like hitting the “reset” button for me – I would prescribe it for anyone wanting to clear their mind…

Damian’s New Martinis!

Damian’s Italian Kitchen is introducing three new martinis! I’m not sure what they did to the “cosmo” that makes it a “Sicilian Cosmo” but it is worth investigating. This was a fun shoot – and no – I didn’t drink them when finished…it was 10am! Check out Damian’s for more info. Of course, Damian’s is not just a preferred client, but my very favorite restaurant in Houston! This place makes me feel very at home…

The Ghost

Recipe: 1 Camera, 1 Tripod, a few seconds of time and a photographer with an imagination. This is what you do when you are finished wiht a commecial shoot and notice neat blue spot lights coming up from the earth. I was using 5-9 second exposures with the camera on automatic timer. Once pressing the shutter release I jumped in front of the lens, holding my breath to keep still and then before the exposure finished dashing to the side to create a blur and let the elements behind me to be exposed -thus creating the “ghost” effect…

Discovery Green

It’s funny how much pretty places can look at twilight. Especially with some interesting lighting. I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to pull this shoot off – there were what seemed like thousands of people there to ice skate…on a Monday. Discovery Green is a breath of fresh air in a concrete jungle. It’s a great start – I certainly hope there is more of that kind of city planning on the way….

With over 700 members and growing, imagewave has the same intent, although the look has been upgraded a bit.
